Balaram Ambaji Wildlife Sanctuary lies in Northern Gujarat, spreading across an area of 542 sq km, serving as a passageway between two prominent areas: Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary and Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary. The name is derived from the old Balaram and Ambaji temples, located at the opposite corners of this sanctuary. The Government of Gujarat declared this picturesque site as sanctuary in 1989 to conserve endangered species and saving their natural habitats. This area offers richness in floral-diversity that includes medicinal plants. It houses a diverse range of flora and fauna.
The distinct ecosystem of this sanctuary protect 483 plant species of which 107 are trees, 58 shrubs, 219 herbs, 40 are grass, 49 climbers, and 10 lower plant species. Some common trees are Timru, Palash, Khair, Modad, Khakhara, and medicinal plants such as musali and gugal.
